The squeals of Angora rabbits: One Voice is blowing the whistle in 16 towns in France on 22 and 23 January 2022

One Voice is organizing a coordinated national campaign by its activists in sixteen cities across France on the last weekend of January to raise awareness about the plight of Angora rabbits, whose fur is plucked several times a year for the vanity and comfort of certain humans. They scream in agony during the shearing process, and shreds of skin are often torn away along with the fur—a practice our investigations have documented at several-year intervals over the past six years (in 2016, 2018,

and 2020). After facing setbacks in the legal system regarding this issue in the past, the association is relaunching two proceedings with new evidence: a complaint of non-compliance before the European Commission and a preliminary appeal to the Minister of Agriculture.

In sixteen departments across mainland France, our activists will showcase the plight of these silky-haired rabbits through visual events designed to raise public awareness of this issue. We have planned various activities depending on the location: for example, there will be life-size stuffed rabbits at the awareness booths (with petitions and informational materials available) and audio recordings of rabbits’ cries. Brands selling clothing and accessories containing angora wool will be named and called upon to cease this trade, especially by the groups of activists stationed in front of major retailers (most of them)…In Nice, a “life-size rabbit” will even be placed on a table and shaved live.

Other warm and soft materials already exist or have recently emerged that do not rely on animal suffering. We advocate for cruelty-free fashion.
