SACPA: "justifications" that mask a fundamental problem
The SACPA is attempting to justify itself by presenting veterinary records as proof of its “ethical” treatment of animals. But what it carefully avoids mentioning is the heart of the problem: animals are being killed because the facilities are congested, not solely for reasons of health or dangerousness. And we strongly denounce this.
This dramatic situation, where killing becomes a logistical solution, should not exist. Why have we reached this point? Because the State continues to turn a blind eye to the massive abandonment of animals which is skyrocketing every year. Because the sale and donation of animals on the Internet, at trade shows or between individuals is allowed to multiply unchecked. Because sterilisation, the only sustainable solution to limit animal suffering, is still not mandatory. Because the penalties for mistreatment are derisory, if indeed any convictions are handed down.
In response to this, One Voice is fighting to ensure that the State finally faces up to its responsibility. So that abandonment is really punished, that online trading is banned, and that sterilisation becomes the norm. In the meantime, we must denounce the abuses and scandalous practices that continue to occur in the shadows, often behind the closed gates of animal pounds.
And on this subject, the SACPA is no stranger to controversy:
- In 2014, 24 dogs died of asphyxiation in a lorry during a transport organised by the SACPA in defiance of all rules.
- In 2022, it was the kennel in Plérin that was in the spotlight.
- In 2023 in Perpignan, a complaint was filed by local associations concerning acts of cruelty and illegal euthanasia. The hearing, which was to take place in May 2024, is now finally scheduled for December 2025.
- In early 2025, it was the facility in Vaux-le-Pénil that was making headlines, leaving animals to die in agony.
- And how many other horrors have gone unreported?
Despite this, the SACPA receives hundreds of thousands of euros in public money every year, while practising mass slaughter for lack of a better alternative. And when an animal protection organisation dares to shed light on its practices, it responds by blocking the “comment” function under its press release. A strange view of “transparency”, isn’t it?
We don’t need to attack anyone personally. The images, testimonies and court records speak for themselves.
One Voice will continue to speak out on behalf of these animals, the silent victims of a broken system, and to call for far-reaching reforms, both in terms of structures and legislation. Sign our petition to call for an end to slaughters in pounds.
