Wild animals in captivity: very vague measures

Five years to close down 4 mink farms, 2 of which are subject to legal proceedings? It was high time!

In four years seven mink farms have closed; there are therefore no more than four still operating. And we have begun legal proceedings against two of these four. Moreover the hearing about the one in Montarlot is scheduled for 13 October.

As the association that acted as rapporteur of the group on fur when it met at the Ministry of Ecology during the Spring and Summer of 2019, it is precisely thanks to our unceasing and repeated campaigningthat these mink farms have eventually closed! We were supported by our partners in the Fur Free Alliance, who have again recently challenged the French embassies in their countries.

When one thinks that Poland, the second-biggest supplier of fur in the world, is going to close theirs down and that the Netherlands is closing their 160 mink farms in March when they had expected to take three years over it, France is taking its time. But we have noted this long-awaited decision and are continuing our campaign to ensure that no mink are born next Spring on these cruel and polluting farms.

No date for the end of circuses ... training hidden from view and anyone's guess when it will be implemented!

No end date announced, no information on how it will take place! Hippopotamuses and elephants will be the first to benefit from the end of captivity and travelling circuses. It will be introduced gradually. Big cats last. But the Minister forgets that the circus is not only about travelling: it is also about training, which is completely hidden from view! And what about the animals that are not used in performances, which shouldn't even be held in captivity?

The Minister of Ecology received circus representatives last week, and the discussions were "heated" if the trainers are to be believed. Other meetings are expected to take place. Allowing circuses several years to stop exploiting felines is another slap in the face for the lions and tigers that have never known anything else for their whole lives. It is a slap in the face for those that have been slaughtered. It is a slap in the face for the hippopotamuses and elephants that will remain in circus wagons for months or even years, some until they die. For Jumbo, Boulie, Mina and Kamala, Nelly and Brigit – already more than 50 years on the road. For Baby and Samba too.

In 21 years of campaigning for the abolition of circuses in France we have seen two thirds of circuses give up using animals in performances. There were 500 big cats in circuses 21 years ago. How can the State ensure that its measures are observed when there isn't even a register of wild animals kept in circuses? Big cats have always ensured that trafficking remained lucrative.

We are delighted about the immediate ban on breeding and the ban on the acquisition of new captive cetaceans in line with our requests. The Minister envisages that a sanctuary will be set up and we and our partners are offering our expertise. Yesterday two belugas obtained their semi-freedom. It is both possible and desirable! Since January 2018, when the dolphinarium decree adopted in May 2017 was set aside, the State has stood by and allowed dolphins to be born and die in captivity. It is deplorable that for three years dolphin calves were born in those pools. After we submitted a writ against the State to the Council of State for an administrative error it made it wait for a year, assuring the highest administrative court in France that animal-welfare measures were on their way. Today these announcements are constructive and we are now awaiting details relating to individuals currently held in captivity. Another question needs to be asked: where are the orcas going to go in two years' time?

We deplore the lack in these announcements of some fundamental themes and firm decisions, but we are not surprised that France is so spineless in this regard. France was and therefore is still way off the mark, out of step with what society expects, because the Minister has provided neither time-frame nor date nor method of implementation. Obviously at least the words have been spoken, but the government must not think that we shall be content with compromises. We cannot wait another ten or fifteen years before there is further progress! The animals certainly can't wait.

Au Pays-Bas ils ferment les élevages de vison aussi rapidement car le vison attrape et transmet le corona selon leurs dires. Et pour ça les visons sont massacrés par milliers en ce moment même.
Donc c'est pas pour mettre un fin à la vie de misère des visons qu'ils accélèrent les fermetures.

J'appellerais plutôt les mesures prises par le gouvernement pour le bien-être animal des demi mesures.
Pourquoi 5 ans pour fermer les élevages de vison restant actuellement en France alors qu'il n'y en a plus que quatre ? combien d'animaux vont encore souffrir de ce commerce barbare ? l'échéance est trop lointaine et rien ne dit que le prochain gouvernement va prendre acte de cette mesure. En Europe, le Danemark, en 2019, a présenté un projet d'interdiction d'élevage d'animaux à fourrure d'ici à 2025, pratiquement 6 ans pour mettre à terre cette activité. Et pourquoi sinon pour des intérêts économiques ?
J'écoutais aujourd'hui un dresseur du cirque Pinder assurer que ses félins étaient bien traités et venaient même se frotter contre lui. Ses animaux sont peut-être mieux nourris, mieux soignés mais où vivent-ils hormis dans des cages et n'ont-ils pas à supporter de longs déplacements en camion ? où est leur bien-être ici ? Sandrine Bouglione a déclaré "L'interdiction des animaux va sauver le cirque" et elle s'en explique en affirmant constater une désertification des cirques à cause justement de la présence des animaux. Les spectacles animaliers sont encore appréciés des seniors qui ont grandi avec cette tradition (malgré mon grand âge je n'en ai jamais fait partie !) mais ils sont l'objet de nombreuses critiques de la part d'un public plus jeune. Alors fini les éléphants enchaînés et fouettés, les hippotames sans bassin, et les fauves dressés dans la terreur et prisonniers de cages trop exigües pour eux. Fini, peut-être mais quand ?
Par contre, pourquoi faudrait-il que les fauves partent en dernier ? ils ont également leur lot de souffrance, il suffit de prendre l'exemple de Jon, Hannah, Céleste, Patty et Marli, ces cinq lions retirés d'un cirque où ils étaient maltraités et non soignés.
Quant aux delphinariums ils me font penser à un poisson rouge qui serait coincé dans un verre à vin. Comment ces humains se sont-ils permis de penser pouvoir retenir captifs des animaux qui ont les océans pour milieu de vie ? la reproduction de ces mammifères marins a été interdite en 2017, puis le Conseil d'Etat l'a ré-autorisée. Des delphineaux sont nés pour mourir ensuite. Aujourd'hui la reproduction et l'acquisition de nouveau mammifères marins sont finalement interdites. Mais tous ces animaux ne pourront sortir de leur prison que dans sept ans. Pourquoi ?
Quant aux animaux des cirques, quand pourront-ils sortir ?
Pour moi, les mesures annoncées par le gouvernement sont premièrement largement incomplètes par rapport aux problèmes dénoncés par les partisans de la cause animale et deuxièmement elles ne semblent être que du blabla destiné à calmer les foules dans l'attente des prochaines élections. Je suis loin d'être satisfaite et vous ?

bonjour, comme vous pouvez le lire dans notre publication, nous prenons acte des déclarations de Mme Pompili, cela va dans le bon sens, mais nous restons sur la réserve quant aux délais d'application de ces mesures. Ils sont longs, les animaux survivront-ils jusque là ? Et combien d'entre eux ? Dans tous les cas, nous suivrons avec beaucoup d'attention la suite donnée à ces intentions, et nous continuons notre combat, pour tous ces animaux, nous ne lâcherons rien, comme toujours. Ce sont des annonces heureuses mais il y a urgence à ce qu'elles soient actées et concrétisées très rapidement car il ne faudrait pas que le gouvernement actuel nous "endorme" par des promesses en attendant les prochaines élections présidentielles! Il est vrai malheureusement qu'en matière de bien-être animal la France, si grande nation paraît-il, soit à ce point une mauvaise élève qui ne semble pas être pressée de mettre fin à des traditions archaïques. Pour tous ces animaux, le temps presse car ils continuent de souffrir tous les jours !!

Merci de toute votre analyse, je croyais être la seule à ne pouvoir me réjouir de ces annonces "tape à l'oeil" d'une ministre qui finalement comme vous le dites si bien ne libère pas tous ces animaux en grandes souffrances de leurs geôliers qui dès ce matin péroraient sur BFM TV en affirmant que jamais ils ne laisseraient leurs animaux vivre sans eux dans des sanctuaires....Nous connaissons leurs violences !!! Si des JUMBO,des MISHA (décédé) et tous les autres pouvaient parler ....de tous les supplices dont ils sont l'objet au quotidien aux mains de ces monstres!!!!
Les orques et les dauphins n'ont qu'à continuer à tourner en rond dans leur baignoire pourrie.....encore et encore .....Les visons n'ont qu'à continuer à être exterminés dans des souffrances innommables pendant 5 longues années.....
IL N'Y A QUE LE FRIC QUI CONDUIT CE MONDE INSUPPORTABLE POUR DES MILLIERS D'ANIMAUX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NE LÂCHONS RIEN ....PENSONS A TOUS CES ANIMAUX DE LABORATOIRES DONT LES SOUFFRANCES SONT INQUALIFIABLES.
