Sponsor a Wolf
Wolves and Humans
The last grey wolf (Canis lupus) of French lineage was killed in the 1930s after a presence of 400,000 years.
In the medieval era, our ancestors turned against their former brethren, seeing in them the very devil! They pursued them relentlessly until near extermination. Brave and resilient, wolves returned to our country from Italy in the 1990s. Despite their endangered status and the protections it affords, they struggle to regain their place in our forests and mountains. Their population, classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, numbered only 1,104 individuals at the end of winter 2022-2023. The reason: many farmers and hunters still refuse to coexist with them, even though solutions exist. To get their hides, they are willing to spread the worst lies about them. Instead of accusing them of embodying the devil, they now blame them for competing within a nature they wish to dominate. Yet wolves are far from the monsters they describe. On the contrary, they are guardians of ecosystem health, protectors of biodiversity, and wonderful mammals with admirable sentience. We fight to make them better known and to denounce the killings (orchestrated by the State) they fall victim to before their kind is wiped out. Forever.
