Wildlife

Explanation | Take action | Our news | History |
One Voice fights to defend wild animals from the violence they are subjected to. In France, foxes and wolves are in urgent need of protection. Persecuted, they are the victims of the worst atrocities and are poorly protected by insufficient regulation. But they are not the only ones. Wildlife around the world has to deal with cruelty. One Voice is fighting for them to finally be respected.

The massacre of wolves

After being exterminated, the wolves returned naturally to France. This good news for our ecosystems is however extremely badly received by some: the hunters and farmers have decided that they are their competitors and, with the support of the State, their massacre has resumed.

The wolf, considered an endangered species, is protected by European regulations. They cannot be just an object for target practice "all other means have been tried to avoid this". However the shots “levises” multiply each year, killing dozens of wolves. Cubs are not spared. Why circumvent protected animal status?

The reason is simple; the wolves are a competition for hunters of small game - especially farm bred, and an ideal culprit for the farmers whose sector is in crisis. 85% of the wages of the shepherds are subsidized where the wolf is present, and they receive compensation in case of attack, which is not the case when it is the fact that of stray dogs. So many reasons to continue to believe that it poses a threat to the ridiculously small number of ewes it actually takes...

And even so ... Killing a wolf certainly reduces the size of the pack but does not diminish its hunting territory. Moreover, the instability generated by the death of one of them leads to a search for empty spaces, and contributes to the formation of new groups. The massacre of wolves is not even a valid solution to the problem we are lead to believe in! One Voice calls for an end to this killing.

« 75% deem it unacceptable for the state to slaughter certain protected species »

Foxes: harmful to whom?

Between 2013 and 2014, more than 500 000 foxes were victims of hunters and trappers. This figure, already impressive, does not take into account the fox cubs. Registered on the list of "pests", foxes are hunted all year and suffer all: they are trapped, smoked out, fired at and pursued relentlessly by hunting parties with dogs...

Their only fault? Same as for wolves, they compete with hunters! Because they DO not attack cats, and as for hens, they only attack those of small farms poorly secured... Instead of being detrimental, foxes are particularly useful for biodiversity. They hunt rodents and limit their presence in the fields, and thus the spread of Lyme disease. Better yet, letting them play their role in nature would reduce the use of pesticides by farmers ...

One Voice calls for the urgent removal of foxes from the list of pests and, ultimately, for it to no longer be acceptable to hunt foxes.

Other wild animals

One Voice fights for the respect of all wild animals in France and in the world and intervenes whenever necessary, for one-off actions or campaigns of long duration. It has put an end to the exploitation of bears for dancing in India, and has set up an anti-poaching cell - Forestwatch, with its local partner, Wildlife SOS. An elephant sanctuary has also been created to provide a retreat and care for all who are freed from the yoke of humans.

Also active in China with ACTAsia, our investigation revealed the scandalous fate of animals held in Chinese zoos. It works to alter practices and changes in regulations that today do not protect animals. Africa, Peru, Russia ... One Voice works everywhere to help animals in distress!
