A summer school on meat consumption!

Just months after the COP21, whilst scandals associated with the farming and slaughter of animals multiply, One Voice and the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics are organising the third summer school on animal ethics. From the 24 ^th to the 27^th of July, at St Stephens House, the ethics of animal consumption will be the hot topic…

There has been such high interest from universities all over the world wanting to participate that there was not enough place to accommodate everyone. Amongst the participants will be the French philosophers Corine Pelluchon and Thomas Lepeltier. The collective objective of the event is to conduct a knowledge overhaul on the themes relating to the consumption of animals, with particular emphasis on the moral, philosophical and religious aspects as well as the historical, legal, psychological, scientific and sociological ones. The moral issue linked to the act of killing will be high on the agenda, as well as the subject of suffering experienced by animals in the food industry, animals portrayed as meat, the link between meat consumption and climate change, the impact of industrial farming on the environment, the use of meat substitutes, in vitro meat and strategies for change…

The Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, founded in 2006 at the prestigious Oxford University, explores the questions of animal ethics through university research, teaching and publications. It is run by Professor Andrew Linzey, who is also One Voice's vice-president.

Each conference member's contributions will be compiled in a book edited by the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics in English and in French. It could serve as a base for work to come, as did the first conference on the Link in 2007.

Enfin ! J'attends toujours, malgré les milliers de pétitions signées, que des sages prennent en main la vie de nos animaux qui souffrent le martyre , ( que ce soit ELEVAGE ....CIRQUES ,USINES A FOURRURE, LABORATOIRES DE RECHERCHE ( DONT CES SOUFFRANCES SONT INUTILES ) PEUPLE EXTERMINANT POUR LES MANGER DANS DES CIRCONSTANCES DRAMATIQUES " et j'en passe ", ASIE, ESPAGNE, RUSSIE, FRANCE, POLYNÉSIE FRANÇAISE..ET BIEN D'AUTRES PAYS où le peuple torture ces animaux ...( brûlés , bouillis, pendus et dépecés vivants ....) s'il vous plaît ...ne tolérez plus cela. C'est inadmissible, nous avons beau défendre et récupérer à notre niveau des blessés, des traumatisés à vie, pour leur donner tout l'AMOUR qu'ils méritent, il faut agir en hautes sphères...

Je garde un tout petit espoir que vous parveniez à faire de cette planète......UN MONDE SANS CRUAUTÉ.

Une initiative plus que nécessaire, merci..! Il faudrait organiser régulièrement de tels évènements, qui associent des chercheurs issus de disciplines différentes. Car tout comme la thématique environnementale, l'éthique animale et le rapport homme-animal questionnent nos modèle de société. Les enjeux qu'ils soulèvent impliquent notamment la conduite d'une réflexion à l'échelle globale. Aborder les problématiques telles que la consommation de viande par le prisme des sciences humaines, de la philosophie, de l'art ou de la politique peut nous éclairer ce qui structurent nos modes de vie et de consommation. C'est une opportunité pour proposer des lectures croisées et singulières, dessiner des voies alternatives à celles empruntées jusqu'à présent.

Toutefois, il ne faut pas cantonner la thématique de l'éthique animale à la sphère militante ou élitiste de la recherche, il est nécessaire d'impliquer plus largement la société civile, le grand public, les médias et les réseaux sociaux - si on veut un dialogue constructif, il les relais incontournables de la démocratie participative doivent y être associés.

Je trouve cette initiative non seulement merveilleuse mais aussi, profonde, complète et nécessaire et encore un grand MERCI à One Voice pour en être à l'origine. J'espère bien évidemment que lors de cette université d'été il sera également question de toutes les exploitations et utilisations des animaux à des fins plus ignobles et inacceptables les unes que les autres, par la race d'humain, je pense qu'à travers de telles actions, les consciences ne peuvent que s'éveiller en faveur de nos frères les animaux qui ne sont pas sur terre pour le "confort, pour le plaisir, pour l'amusement, et autres" d'humains, car les animaux n'ont pas besoin de nous pour vivre en principe et doivent être libres et indépendants et pouvoir mener leurs vie comme ils l'entendent en tant qu'êtres vivants sensibles et intelligents, et non subir et être les victimes de la cruauté inimaginable et impensable d'humains.
