Our modes
of action

One Voice, a wide-ranging association

Investigations, legal proceedings, grassroots activism, political advocacy. Multi-media, multi-audience communication to defend all animals and their habitats, and to improve our society…

Investigate & denounce

Revealing reality

Investigations are the starting point for all One Voice campaigns. Revealing what is hidden in order to show it, above all to raise public awareness of the suffering of animals and the disappearance of their habitat, has been the cornerstone of the association since its inception. The images speak for themselves, and the facts shown become difficult to dispute. This is when legal proceedings, lobbying of public decision-makers and broader communication with the general public can have a real impact, both immediately and over the longer term. One Voice protects whistle-blowers and supports press freedom. They support its efforts to expose the opacity of certain institutions and companies.

Rely on your testimonials

Without witnesses, nothing can change problematic situations. We need that spark. That’s why the reports we receive are so important. We’re counting on each and every one of you, and on your sense of individual and collective responsibility. Once we have gathered the testimonies, we can act more effectively, by going deeper and investigating, or sometimes, with these elements alone. They really do make all the difference. We guarantee the anonymity of those who request it.

Relying on independent experts

Images of neglect, mistreatment, training, slaughter and cruelty are sent for analysis to specialists, whose certificates and attestations are used to enrich and support One Voice’s arguments at every level (in court, with the public, with elected representatives or with all of them at once)!

Reporting to the relevant authorities

Once we’ve identified problems, we alert institutions and authorities, and demand compliance with laws and regulations. If necessary, we also take cases to court and present our ideas to the people in charge to change the rules of our society, to be actors of change, by proposing legislative modifications.

One Voice has called on me several times to give my independent expert opinion on videos of captive wild animals, which have subsequently been used in court.

Lobbying public decision-makers

Encouraging elected representatives to act

Societal change usually precedes changes in the law. But when the law obstructs progress, compassion, empathy and the protection of nature and its inhabitants, we must work to change the rules that frame our society. Alongside our other activities, we are therefore developing progressive advocacy for the animal, human and environmental cause, seeking advances and compromises so that economic arguments do not overwhelm the rest.

Proposing concrete actions

We focus on realistic measures. We aim high, but are aware that sometimes intermediate steps are necessary. While we refuse to settle for half-measures, we are open to compromise. Progress may take a long time, but we never lose sight of the goal.

Fighting for the implementation and evolution of the legal framework.

As well as campaigning for compliance with established rules, we also advocate perpetual improvement of what already exists. Existing laws protecting animals and nature must be respected at the very least, and when they are retrograde, they must absolutely be improved and optimized.

Enforcing collective rules

Support and help

Laws and regulations are often trampled underfoot. Animals and nature often take second place to human interests. Yet for One Voice, the three are interconnected. We go to court to enforce the minimum rules in place to protect those who cannot defend themselves in human societies.

Taking legal action and participating in court cases

Whenever possible, we file requests and complaints, on behalf of One Voice alone, but also alongside associative partners, within ad hoc groups or more structured, long-term coalitions.

Supporting animals and affected populations

When small organizations or individuals call on us for help, we also sometimes support them in court. These levers of action enable us to ensure that pre-established rules are respected, and even to advance jurisprudence.

Seizing abused animals and placing them in shelters and sanctuaries

One of our aims is to offer a decent future to animals in distress. We do our utmost to obtain legal releases for animals, and find places for them in shelters and sanctuaries with which we have partnerships.

Inform

Inform and mobilize

Activism in the field enables us to raise public awareness of animal sentience and, more broadly, of One Voice’s tireless work, and to solicit support. We inform journalists of our investigations, rallies and procedures. They are, when they consider it appropriate to relay them, a privileged mouthpiece for our actions at local, national, European and international level. Social networks are also an essential means for the associative world to inform the public directly.

A voice in the media

The association’s work is published on social networks and also transmitted to newspapers, TV channels, radio stations and online media. In local, national, opinion, investigative and international media, we rely on independent journalists to relay our fight. One Voice is as committed to freedom of speech as it is to freedom of the press.

Activism

We coordinate and run local activist branches throughout France, generally in major cities. Our coordinators and activists are all volunteers. They are chosen for their determination, their collective spirit and their taste for organization and debate. One Voice wants its branches to be respectful, open and friendly, welcoming and inclusive. The association’s role is to raise awareness and convince people of the issues it is working on, as close to people as possible, in the street, and it is the activists who are the first spokespeople.

Informing people about sentience

Animal intelligence and sentience need no further demonstration. But it’s rare for people to be fully aware of the subtleties of these, and the marvels of which they are capable.

Approving best practices

Supporting brands

Logos concerning fashion and animal experimentation

Several coalitions, of which One Voice is the French representative, provide brands with a program to help citizens make informed choices. Brands validated by the associations behind these programs receive a logo which, when displayed on the website or on the products sold, enables consumers to make an informed choice of brands committed to certain criteria (fur-free, no animal products or not tested on animals).
