One Voice and our partner organisations oppose the designation of bullfighting as a part of our cultural heritage. We form an alliance "No to the Shame of France" and demonstrate together in Nimes.

The signed petitions are delivered to the mayor of Nimes.

One Voice launches Operation Sitting Bull with CRAC at a circle of silence in Nimes, where we begin distribution of our petition "Let Nimes make peace with the bulls". An alternative to bullfighting is found: a festival that ties in with the history of the town ! 27 foreign organisations are at our side.

One Voice joins with CRAC in a publicity campaign in Marseille, which stirs up controversy – the posters are banned four times !

One Voice, with our campaigning partners the League Against Cruel Sports and CRAC, commission an IPSOS poll on the French and bullfighting. Only four people in ten are aware that bullfights contribute to the trivialisation of violence amongst the very young. It is urgent to inform the French ! Almost half however have never been to a bullfight and have no plans to do so…

One Voice takes part in a Big European demo in Lisbon with our partner Animal.

One Voice and the Anti-bullfighting Alliance actively support a proposed law to ban bullfighting by the MP Muriel Marland-Militello.

One Voice demonstrates in Carcassone following the decision to allow bullfighting there by the court of appeal in Montpellier, which threw out the arguments of the lawyer and the prosecutor.
2002
Victory for One Voice and the Anti-bullfighting Alliance! We obtain a ban on bullfighting in the town of Bourg-Madame in south-west France after four years of campaigning, as well as in Toulouse on appeal. However these are overturned by the regional court in Carcassone, despite the legal opinion of the public prosecutor who had been demanding a ban on bullfights.

One Voice again takes part in the big annual demo in Nimes against bullfighting.

L'Union pour les animaux (Animals Union), a coalition of organisations founded by One Voice and several partners, calls for the repeal of the law that protects bullfighting from any legal proceedings. We demand as a minimum that it be off limits to under-sixteens.

One Voice/Talis takes part in the proceedings in the trial of several organisers of a private bullfightThe trial at first results in victory, then is lost on appeal in Nimes after the intervention of the local mayor, himself president of the French union of bullfighting towns. However media coverage means that what the bullfighting lobby gets up to is now out in the open.

One Voice/Talis is part of the Anti-bullfighting Alliance campaign to ban propaganda by aficionados in educational establishments.
1998
While the 1998 FIFA World Cup is taking place in France, One Voice/Talis goes into action with WSPA in both France and the UK against bullfights happening during the tournament. We run billboards in the London underground, and project them in French and English onto the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which serves as a giant screen! The event is picked up by AFP, the third largest news agency in the world, and ends up being shown on television all over the world. The UK Sports Minister backs our campaign and tells British tourists to give bullfights a miss.

A bull costume is the centrepiece of several demonstrations in Alsace and charms both public and media.

One Voice/Talis works with travel agents to ensure that many tourists making reservations in bullfighting towns receive our leaflet.

One Voice (then called Talis) and other anti-bullfighting organisations demonstrate in Marseille against a plan to restart bullfighting there.

Since tourists contribute towards its continuation, One Voice/Aequalis, CRAC and Anti-bullfighting Alliance invite them to boycott bullfighting towns by producing a map highlighting regions to avoid in the south of France.

An activist goes undercover in a private bullfight and uncovers the horror of kills by amateurs. One Voice/Aequalis gets the the video footage broadcast.

One Voice (at that time called Aequalis) is at a demonstration organised by Alliance pour la suppression des corridas (Anti-bullfighting Alliance) in Nimes, the capital of French bullfighting. Théodore Monod, the famous French naturalist and explorer and patron of One Voice, is there with us.
