Circuses with animals are not our heritage!

To the Minister of Culture, Madame Azoulay,

We, citizens of the world, refuse the inclusion of circuses using animal acts as part of our cultural heritage.

The fact that they no longer generate public interest and are no longer accommodated in a large number of communes is an important sign that should be taken into account.

They promote practices which belong in the past. Their end is inevitable and demonstrates the refusal of violence as a model for our children.

Incapable of satisfying the needs of the animals that they exploit, they are also a real danger for the public and locals alike.

Slavery cannot be considered 'cultural'. It must be abolished!

Circuses, yes, but without animals…

Increasingly banned in many communes, circuses using animal acts are inevitably beginning to disappear.

However, despite the public's decreasing interest in these submissive performances where in the 21st century, lions are forced to jump through hoops to the crack of the whip, and elephants are made to sit by threatening them with a rod, the Minister of Culture is on the verge of rewarding them with cultural heritage status!

The caged life in the circus is simply suffering. Violence reigns, submission is the only choice. One must be obeyed!

Will we allow this ultimate form of slavery to hold a place in French culture? No! In the country of enlightenment, of philosophers, where we accept our neighbours and their differences, if the circus is part of this history, animal performances cannot be considered 'cultural'!

Speak out: yes to the circus! But without animals…
